Forward-deployed AI consulting in Pune

Pune has a large manufacturing base and a large IT services sector, and many of its GCCs work on engineering and software-led products. For a Pune team, the AI question is often about the machines, the supply chain and the people who run them, as much as about the software.

I am Mayur Patil, based in Nashik, India. Pune is within reach of Nashik by road, and I am in Pune often for engagements.

What the numbers say

Zinnov counts 36 BFSI GCC units in Pune, out of 333 nationally. Pune and Hyderabad together hold about 24 per cent of India's GCC research and development talent, according to Zinnov's six-city analysis. The city has more engineering depth than its BFSI count suggests, which is why the manufacturing and product work matters here.

Where AI work in Pune starts

Three kinds of work come up most often. The first is operations: documents, service records and dealer or supplier data that people read and re-key. The second is engineering: test cases, specifications and code review. The third is customer work, where an agent drafts a reply or a case summary and a person approves it. Each has a clear owner and a clear test, which is what makes it a good first workflow.

The Microsoft centre in Pune

The Government of Maharashtra and Microsoft set up three AI centres of excellence, and one of them is in Pune for forensic AI, according to All India Radio. For a team in Pune, that is a local place to learn the evaluation and governance practice the centre is built around, and it is one of the reasons the readiness review asks what evidence the owner will need.

Relevant work in manufacturing and IT services

I have worked on AI design for a large two-wheeler manufacturer, covering dealer and customer operations, and on AI automation for internal document processing at a top-ten Indian infrastructure company. Persistent Systems, headquartered in Pune, has been through my programmes, covering evaluation, model selection and forward-deployed practice. The organisations I can name are listed on the about page.

The rules that apply to a Pune build

A Pune build that reads personal data falls under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, whose Rules were notified on 13 November 2025, with most obligations about eighteen months after notification, around May 2027. The India AI Governance Guidelines, released on 5 November 2025, are non-legislative. The India pillar sets out the rules with their sources.

One example use case

The example is an illustration, not a client engagement.

Example: a dealer-service agent for a manufacturer. A manufacturer's dealers send service requests by email, in several formats. The proposed agent reads each request, matches it to the parts catalogue, and drafts the reply for the dealer's service advisor. The readiness review settled three points. The agent reads only the request and the catalogue, not the customer's full record. The advisor approves each reply before it is sent. And the evaluation uses past requests whose correct parts the service team has already confirmed.

How an engagement runs in Pune

An engagement starts with the two-week AI Delivery Readiness Review on one workflow, with the people who run the work in the room. It ends with a recommendation to proceed, reframe or pause. If the work proceeds, an architecture sprint or a forward-deployed delivery engagement follows, with a named owner at handover.

Pune is on India time, so there is no offset to manage. Overlap with a parent in another time zone is agreed per project.

Three ways to start

AI Delivery Readiness Review. Two weeks on one workflow, with a written readout.

Architecture Sprint. Two to four weeks on one use case, with the architecture and a backlog.

Forward-deployed AI delivery. One bounded use case, built with your engineers, with a runbook.

Each is quoted on its scope. The engagements page describes what each includes. I do not publish prices.

Common questions

Which industries in Pune does this work fit?

Manufacturing, automotive and IT services are the industries I work in most often in Pune, and I have worked with a two-wheeler manufacturer, an infrastructure company and Persistent Systems, which is headquartered in Pune.

How many BFSI units are in Pune?

Zinnov's analysis counts 36 BFSI GCC units in Pune, out of 333 nationally. Pune and Hyderabad together hold about 24 per cent of India's GCC research and development talent, according to the same analysis.

Is there a Pune or Maharashtra AI programme I can join?

Microsoft and the Government of Maharashtra set up AI centres of excellence, one of them in Pune for forensic AI, according to All India Radio. Joining one depends on that programme's terms, which I would check with it directly.

Do you work on site in Pune?

Yes. I am in Pune often for engagements, and I can do discovery and handover on site. The build can run from Nashik or from the client's site, depending on the work.
